Toss out your pink ribbons ladies. The government now seems to think that breast cancer awareness has gone too far! For years we have heard that we need to get mammograms starting at age 40. Oh, but now they worry that false positives might cause us a little stress or worse yet have us get some medical attention that is not necessary. So, that seems more important to them than the fact that this simple test can, and has, actually saved lives? And that's not all. They are saying that self-exams have not proven to save anyone's lives so they want you to stop doing those too!
Of course this is what happens when you trust the government to run your everyday life. They look at the cost analysis rather than at the human being who is getting the screening. They are not seeing you, they are seeing your money and nothing else. If you have a lot of it, they want it all. If you have a little, they want their share. If you do not have any money, they will give you some of the crumbs left from the money they confiscated from others, but they certainly do not want you doing things like getting screened for cancer and living very long. They can't afford you!
Dr. Lichtenfeld, who was speaking on behalf of the American Cancer Society, said that they are still recommending mammograms starting at age 40. He said, "The bottom line is the mammogram is the best test we have right now."
Believe me, this is only a sample of what we have to look forward to if the federal government takes over our health care system. ANY government option, whether states can supposedly opt out or not, will lead to cost analysis care rather than patient centered treatment. Let's keep healthcare where it belongs, between us and our own family doctor. Call your Senator today and tell them to kill this crazy bill, start from scratch, and implement plans that empower the people, not the government.
Women unite! Stand up and get your mammograms today!
